Like a vintage 1924 tennis racket brought back into play, the Solo Cello Sonata by Belgian composer Eugène Ysaÿe (1858–1931) still holds the power to return the ball. In this performance, Jasmijn Lootens explores the craftsmanship that precedes the act of playing.

To the rhythm of a tennis match, the virtuosity and gestures of a bygone era are deconstructed and transformed into an amorphous electroacoustic sound world. By highlighting and reworking fragments, a new musical narrative emerges—where acoustic cello sounds, noise, and field recordings merge with electroacoustic experimentation.

On the clay of a sonic court, Jasmijn Lootens draws new lines. Does the echo of the past virtuoso still resonate? Or does a new playing field open up? Game on!
